Revelation Study – Part 9

As we continue our study in Revelation chapter 12, we see the church in her glory and travailing in birth.

In verse 3, there appeared something else in the heavenly places having great influence upon the souls of man.  The great red dragon was the Roman Paganism system used to fight against the church.

The great red dragon was not the devil.  It was the system that the devil used to fight against the truth.  Paganism believes in many gods, but the truth is that there is one true God, the creator of the heavens and the earth.

We see in this chapter the dragon and his angels fighting against Michael (Christ) and his angels.  This warfare was a spiritual warfare taking place on earth in the spiritual realm.  Paul spoke of fighting spiritual wickedness in high places in Ephesians 6:12.

The devil has always used false religion to try to destroy God’s church.  But the gates of hell cannot destroy the church of God.  Paganism and its ministers (angels) fought against the church. Many saints were committed to prison and even killed because of the persecution from pagan worshippers. Nero hated the Christians and killed many of the saints including Apostle Paul.

But through the persecution the church continued to grow and the power of paganism came crumbling down.  War was fought in the ecclesiastical heavens and paganism was defeated by the kingdom of God.
